FAQ

Sydney Gold Traders

Helping you make informed decisions regarding the sale your gold or jewellery

1. Why has the price you are willing to pay for my pieces changed since I last spoke to you?

The prices we pay are based on the amount of precious metals you have for sale and the current spot price for those metals.
Precious metals are internationally traded commodities. Their prices, known as spot prices, are determined by the supply and demand on global markets. The prices we pay are derived from these markets, so when global prices change, our do too.

2. What is a Troy ounce?

The Troy ounce is an old empirical unit of measure. Today the Troy ounce is most commonly used as a measure of the mass of precious metals.
1 Troy ounce is equal to 31.1035 grams.

3. How do you check the purity of my items?

We use state-of-art technology to test the amount of pure precious metal in your pieces. Our XRF machine analyses the spectrum of light reflected from your item to calculate the purity of the metal.
This technique is non-invasive and does not damage your piece in any way. It simply points a beam of light at your item and analysis its reflection.

4. What happens to the diamonds or other stones in my jewellery?

We don’t purchase any stones including diamonds. Most of the time we can safely remove any diamonds or other stones and return them to you. However, if the stone is particularly valuable e.g. certified diamonds, we recommend that a jeweller or setter removes them.

5. Do I need to provide identification when I bring items in to sell?

We comply with all Australian legislation and regulations that relate to buying and selling precious metals. As such, we are required to perform an identity check on everyone who sells us items. Australians should bring in current photographic identification, such as a driver’s license or photo card. Non-citizens need to bring their passport and proof of local address (such as a utility bill or bank statement).
We are not able to buy from minors, aged less than 18 years of age.

6. How do Sydney Gold Traders protect clients personal details?

Sydney Gold Traders respects the privacy of your personal information, and complies with all Australian privacy legislation. We do not use your personal information for any purpose other than the one for which you provide it.

7. When are you open?
